The Princes Turn to Philanthropy

Prince William and Prince Harry understand the concept of noblesse oblige. The royal brothers have set up a grant-giving foundation to help young people, wounded servicemen and women, and help sustainable development at home and abroad. William, 27, and Harry, 25, kicked-started it with some of the money they inherited from their mother, Princess Diana, who died in August 1997. Palace sources will not say how much money they have spent initially.

They're once again following in the footsteps of their father, Prince Charles – who set up his Prince's Trust more than 30 years ago using his when he left his service in the Royal Navy. "The Prince of Wales is pleased that his sons are beginning to develop their charitable lives," a spokesman for the heir apparent said. "It is not surprising that some of his focuses, such as young people, environment and military are reflected in some of their interests."The Charitable Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry has been set up "very much for the long term," a palace source tells PEOPLE. Prince William and Harry remain serving military officers but this does lay "the foundation's future official and charitable lives." In January 2010, William is set to step up his royal duties when he undertakes a week-long tour to Australia and New Zealand. It will be his first overseas tour on behalf of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Playing Gossip Girl’s Brooklyn boho beauty, Vanessa Abrams, Jessica Szohr has learned a thing or two about accessorizing. “I actually don’t think [Vanessa] can breathe without 8 necklaces or earrings!” Jessica joked to PEOPLE when we caught up with her at a VOGUE Eyewear event in New York City. “My style is much more simple, Vanessa is very funk’defied,” she says about her character’s tendency to pile on the jewels. “Because my style is very simple, I like to wear accessories to add a little sparkle to the outfit.” And one accessory she can’t get enough of are sunglasses! The Gossip Girl star, who was on hand at Bloomingdale’s to help customers pick out the perfect shades, explains, “You can never really go wrong with sunglasses. I always get myself a couple of pairs every year. One pair that I have had and have managed not to lose is an old vintage pair I found in Venice Beach, California.” And when it comes to her perfect pair of shades, Jessica skips the trends and tries to stick to styles that suit her face and aren’t too big or too small. “They also have to be a little bit funky and fun at the same time,” she amends. Other than her growing collection of sunglasses, Jessica stocks up on beanies and statement rings - much like her Gossip Girl character, Vanessa. “I’m always wearing some kind of big ring,” she notes. And while Jessica has found ways to incorporate Vanessa’s love of accessories in her own wardrobe, there is one thing that they both agree on. “I don’t think people should wear sunglasses at night.” We agree!

A-Rod Plants a Smooch On Kate Hudson at the AMAs

Sure, she's an actress and he's a World Series champ, but the couple made sweet music together backstage at the American Music Awards Sunday night. After the pair palled around with Fergie in the chilly outdoor backstage area at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, "A-Rod gave Kate a big squeeze to keep her warm," says a source, "and a sweet smooch." Hudson was, "beaming, glowing actually," adds the source. Hudson, along with Nicole Kidman, who both star in the upcoming Nine with Fergie, introduced the singer-actress's performance with the Black Eyed Peas, while Rodriguez introduced Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, who sang their hit, "Empire State Of Mind." Hudson, in a barely-there silver dress, ignited giggles from the crowd when she repeatedly adjusted her plunging neck line. But backstage, she "didn't look uncomfortable at all in the outfit," says the source.

When she signed on to play vampire Alice Cullen in the Twilight series, Ashley Greene didn't realize what she was getting herself into. "There are so many fans, paparazzi everywhere. It's kind of nuts to go from 0 to 60 in a year," she says. "We haven't gotten used to it. I don't think anyone does!" And though the media is speculating about onset romances and catfights, "It's so not true," says the New Moon star. But here are five fun facts that the 22-year-old Jacksonville native will stand behind. 1. She is a daredevil"I had a great cheerleading squad, so I got into tumbling. The kinds of moves where they throw you in the air and you do a back flip and they catch you. Looking back, I could have killed myself! We fell a lot," she says. "There was one time they didn't catch me. That was not fun. Another time, I nailed my jaw on someone's shoulder on the way down. My coach was like, 'You alright? Get back up.' " 2. She graduated from school early to move to L.A."I was in all honors and AP classes, so by the middle of my senior year, I had all my credits. So when the opportunity came to move to L.A. I went," Greene says. "Still, my mom was insistent that I come back for the cap and gown ceremony!" 3. She's close with Kellan Lutz"We have game nights on the weekends. We always do Taboo, Pictionary and Clue and we always battle on the Wii. He always beats me." But costar Peter Facinelli says Ashley has won at other games. While filming The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, due out in 2010, the cast found it harder and harder to go out without getting mobbed, "So we ended up eating in more and playing games at each other's apartments. One night we even played the Twilight Board Game," Facinelli says. "Kellan Lutz bought it. So it was me, Kellan, Ashley and Xavier, who plays Riley in Eclipse. And Ashley won. But her character is clairvoyant so I think she had a little bit of an advantage." 4. She has a tiny purse addiction"When I first got paid for Twilight, it was more about making sure my rent was secure for a year. There was no guarantee that the second, or third or fourth movies would get made. By the second film, I went a little crazy with bags. I bought ones from Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Burberry. I felt a little bad at the time, but I don't regret it. I've used them to death!" 5. She has one weakness: Cheez-Its"Cheez-Its are my vice, so I never buy them myself. Usually someone else is buying them for me and they're like, 'I know you love them.' I will eat a whole box. I have no self control," she says. "But I can't live life not enjoying food. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have remained coy about their relationship, but the New Moon costars looked awfully close over the weekend in New York City – even though they're done promoting their hit movie. On Thursday, while their castmates were partying after their Big Apple premiere at the Box on New York's Lower East Side, Pattinson and Stewart took a tour of the city's hotspots together. The duo started their night at the ultra exclusive Soho House, where they "had a good time," a source tells PEOPLE. Later, they skipped over to Avenue, where they were spotted making out while their bodyguards tried to block prying eyes. The two also hung out with Joan Jett, who joined them at their table. On Saturday night the two were spotted getting close at Dive Bar, on the Upper West Side – and they stayed out late. A source spotted the duo around 3 a.m. with their bodyguard in tow. Finally, on Sunday, the two closed out their weekend with dinner at Megu in Tribeca. Pattinson dined on Kobe beef skewers and asparagus, while Stewart ordered a sashimi platter and the king crab. "They were with two friends and looked very cozy," says a source. "Both were having a great time."
