William & Kate Made into Barbie and Ken Dolls in Time for Their Anniversary
William & Kate Made into Barbie and Ken Dolls in Time for Their Anniversary
By Stephen M. Silverman
She may not be as curvy as the original, and he not as metrosexual, but the new Mattel Duke and Duchess of Cambridge versions of Barbie and Ken are regal – and just a little kitschy – enough to make any true collector drool. The toy company is releasing the figurines in time to mark the real-life royal couple's one-year wedding anniversary, which explains why they are outfitted in their wedding finery: he in dashing red military jacket with a blue sash, and she in a mini-version of her Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown, replete with tiny tiara and sapphire engagement ring, reports InStyle. Kate's been a doll before, if you remember. Last year, the Franklin Mint issued a royal engagement edition. But now for the bad news. When the Barbie-and-Ken dolls go on sale for $155 from Amazon.com U.K. come April 7, they will not be offered in the United States. Shoppers throughout Europe, on the other hand, can swoop up all they want. Doesn't seem cricket.
